Who would have ever thought that a “Men Working” sign would be so exciting for Twin Lakes Residents?  It was good news for residents.

On Monday, August 18, the county smoothed out the patches of road along 136th Street between Plattsburg Road and Nation Road. This was ordered by County Administrator, Karl Walters, after TLHA President Warren Stevenson met with him, and subsequently toured 136th street with Karl to point out the poor condition of the road and its repairs. Walters acted within a week to smooth out the patches and the street is now a lot safer to drive on with no more “dodging” the piles of  “Hot Patch.”

Warren also discussed the poor condition of the roads in Twin Lakes and the need for new asphalt surfaces. The current roads were done more than 25 years ago. While other subdivisions in the area have received new asphalt roads, we have not. Karl Walters explained the high cost of asphalt vs “chip and seal” and the lack of funding. RoadRepairTrucks

However, he offered an acceptable alternative.  The county now has a new resurfacing process called Micro Surfacing which is a polymer coating that lasts for four or five years on well traveled roads.  Warren, who is familiar with this type of surface from his days of travel in California, Washington and Oregon, says this is a good solution.  Assuming no cuts to the 2015 budget, Twin Lakes is scheduled to receive this treatment to our roads next spring.  Once the new surface is applied, within four hours it is set and ready to go, whereas “chip and seal” leaves oil and gravel on the road for days.

Hats off to Warren for his persistence – getting a petition from our homeowners, taking it to the County administrator, and setting a meeting to drive the roads.  It paid off and hopefully next spring our Twin Lakes’ roads will be resurfaced and looking as good as new.

A big thanks to Karl Walters for such a fast response and action!
